Letter from the Editor
Dear Readers:
I would like to thank you for taking an interest in The Political Zoo. Our goal as a publication is to make a difference and getting these words into your hands is the first step. It has been an exciting project for all of us on the editorial board, and we are so thrilled to finally be able to share it with you!
I would also like to thank our editorial board for their dedication and hard work to make this publication possible and all of our authors, who have adopted our ideals and incorporated our aims in educating and inspiring our readers into their writing.
The aim of our magazine is to give the politically uninitiated a go-to source for political information in colloquial terms that they can understand. We want to get them excited about becoming involved. I remember hearing about politics as a child and a teenager, but they felt unconnected to my life. I did not take an interest. People were always using terms and phrases I didn't understand or making references to historical events of which I had never learned. Perhaps because of this, my knowledge of politics when I graduated from High School was almost nonexistent. There was a Presidential Election the next year, but I didn't even vote. I felt I didn't know enough.
Sadly this is the state of many of our nation's young people as they graduate from High School. They don't know enough, or care enough, about the political world to try to become involved. We hope to change this.
I was lucky enough to make friends in college with a few political activists and before long found myself introduced to the many different viewpoints in the American political world. Having my eyes opened and learning where to go for information, learning how much the political world did impact my life and my future, made me want to share my new-found knowledge and passion with the world.
I hope what you learn by reading this magazine not only educates, but also inspires you. We live in such an incredible country. We have the right and opportunity to be involved in our own government, and that is such a rare and precious gift. We hope that after reading this magazine each of you will feel more educated, more prepared, and more inspired to exercise that right and become an active political member in this great nation.
Thank you,
Kristi Atkinson
